Supreme Court Judges in Taraz and Aktau to learn modern mentoring and coaching techniques
On February 16-17 in Taraz and February 23-24 in Aktau the international experts from the European Union, His Honour Ian Karsten QC and Glynn Sixsmith Hookings, will deliver two-day mentoring courses for judges and judiciary personnel.

At the parliamentary hearings on the further modernization of the criminal, criminal-procedural and criminal-executive legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan the EU expert invited by the EU project "Enhancing Criminal Justice in Kazakhstan" Ekaterina Trendafilova made a speech on the main trends of development of the European policy in the field of criminal justice.
The second Criminological Forum was held in Astana with the support of the European Union
ASTANA – on November 17, 2016 an expert meeting in the General Prosecutor’s Office within the framework of second Criminological Forum "Discussions in Kosshy" was conducted. The topic for discussion on the agenda were the following: "Why one does not want to be a witness?" and "Are victims’ rights protected?".The international experts Ekaterina Trendafilova and Jos Mesu shared their experience of the European Union countries concerning the legal status of a witness and a victim.
Achieving Best Evidence courses will help to improve the interviewing skills of the investigative judges of Karagandy and the Northern Kazakhstan regions
Two-day training seminars on Achieving Best Evidence were held in Karagandy and Petropavlovsk for the investigating judges of the Karagandy and the Northern Kazakhstan region. The events were organized by the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan with the support of the European Union Project “Enhancing Criminal Justice in Kazakhstan”.
The First Criminological Forum "Discussions in Kosshy" was held in Astana with the support of the European Union
On November 9, 2016, in Astana in the General Prosecutor's Office the First Criminological Forum "Discussions in Kosshy" was held. The main goal of establishing of the forum was to create a platform for discussion of the sharpest problems of combating crime, disputes in the application of criminal and criminal procedural law. Following the meeting, the views of law enforcement officials, academics, representatives of civil society on law enforcement issues and ways to resolve them will be consolidated. The first meeting of the forum was devoted to the discussion of the causes behind the rare appointment of criminal fines in Kazakhstan.
The EU project supported the second National Forum of Defence Lawyers in Almaty
On November 4, 2016 Almaty hosted the second National Forum of Defence Lawyers in Almaty. The Forum held under the name “The rule of law and modern trends of advocacy development” addressed the issues of advocacy, respect for human rights and fair trial standards, the reform of the criminal justice and respect for the constitutional rights of citizens, constitutional guarantees of the right to qualified legal assistance. The European Union project “Enhancing criminal justice in Kazakhstan” invited two experts to the forum from the Netherlands and the UK.
EU international experts spoke about victimization survey
On November 1, 2016 in Astana the international experts of the European Union in criminology Prof. Dr. Jan van Dijk and Dr. John van Kesteren met with the students and teachers of the KazGUU Higher School of Law. The purpose of the meeting was to present methodology of the International Crime Victims Survey (ICVS) and discuss the upcoming victimization survey in Kazakhstan.
